NT$8: "Former Ode on the Red Cliff" is the only surviving work of Su Shi's "Ode on the Red Cliff" Calligraphy. The brushstrokes are full-bodied yet sedate. The work combines literature with artistic creation. In 1082, he took a boat excursion with friends to the Red Cliff. He recalled the Battle of the Red Cliff that Sun Quan attacked Cao Cao's forces during the Three Kingdoms period, and showed his understanding of human life. (National Palace Museum Collection)
